Located in the bottom of a valley, the Xavier University tennis courts not only didn’t drain properly, but water pressure from beneath continually caused limestone deposits to push up through the asphalt, leaving stains. Sportworks Field Design created a unique solution—a capillary action barrier break—to stop the water from rising up under the courts. By using a course-graded stone and drains on either sides of the courts, water now flows through the stone to the drains before it ever reaches the asphalt. In addition, Sportworks also designed a tapered fence that allows spectators sitting on the hillside to comfortably view courts.
